Pessoa Saddles

Both Nelson and Rodrigo Pessoa are deserving of the title of champion according to any criteria. They have both established excellent portfolios over the course of their careers competing at the highest levels of their respective sports, including winning medals at both the Olympic and Pan-American levels.

Nelson “Neco” Pessoa made his debut in the early 1960s, at a period in Brazilian equestrian history when the majority of competitors were members of the military. Because of his pinpoint accuracy and remarkable technique, he became known as “The Wizard,” and he went on to amass a number of triumphs in both Brazil and Europe. In the course of his career, he amassed a total of 150 Grand Prix victories, 100 Puissance triumphs, and countless Derby victories, solidifying his position as one of the most accomplished riders of the age. It only contributed to his legacy when he began coaching his son Rodrigo, who went on to have a fantastic career.

Rodrigo spent his childhood accompanying Nelson to many horse exhibitions, and during each journey, his passion for both horses and competition became stronger. Even though his parents always supported him in pursuing his education, he always knew that he would end up in the same line of work as his father. At the age of 16, he began competing in Grand Prix events, and at the age of 19, he made his first Olympic squad alongside his father. He came in ninth place overall in the individual competition. Since then, Rodrigo’s record of amazing accomplishments has only grown, including many World Cup championships (including three in a row with Baloubet), spots on Olympic teams, and top rankings in the globe.
