Ghost Saddles
Handmade Italian Treeless & Flexible Saddles.
Italian Treeless & Flexible Saddles crafted by hand.
Saddles that are kind to you and your horse, is the motto for Ghost saddles. They are Saddles that are flexible, adjustable, or both, and riders can customise these saddles for their own horses!
They are meticulously handcrafted in Italy by a small crew that works hard to provide the most remarkable and cutting-edge saddles on the market. The craftsmanship is unmatched.
After treating horses with bad backs for a few years, the conclusion that 99% of the horses with very bad backs that were being seen by back massage therapists had saddle fit issues and were being aggravated by their saddles. Instead of continually managing the symptoms brought on by uncomfortable saddles, a solution to this issue was the Ghost range. This is an interesting concept as treeless saddles were found to cause more pressure on the horses spine than a treed saddle. Scintigraphy scans have proven that treeless saddles do cause more pressure on the actual spine as all weight bearing is evened out including across the spine.
The ghost saddle range certainly is very different to what is expected in a saddle and have a very definitive look which you either like or do not. They are also very large, covering a large surface area of the horse which would need to be considered for endurance and heat retention. Whist no weights are provided either for rider suitability or the saddles individually one would think that the saddle would have to be lighter than the treed counterpart. The comparable endurance saddle the Wintec Pro endurance saddle does have a tree and a 10 year warranty and is still light and is more of an expected look.
The Ghost and Cavallin treeless saddles can accommodate a variety of seat styles with just one base, making them almost like a “modular” saddle. You can really use the same saddle base to ride in a dressage saddle in the morning and then switch to one of the amazing trail variants for an afternoon bush ride! They are incredibly creative in every way!
The Ghost Quilty, Quevis, and Florac are all short-flap types that are suitable for leisure and trail riding as well as for riders who enjoy having minimal space between them and their horses. Based on these models, The Ghost Western (USA) adds a skirt and a horn for a more authentic western appearance. In order to accommodate riders who, prefer to have their legs straight, the Quilty incorporates vertical thigh blocks. For riders who want to ride with shorter stirrups, the thigh blocks on the Quevis are slightly slanted and placed more forwards. No blocks exist on the Florac. Thigh blocks can be used to deliver the Ghost USA from any posture.
Dressage saddles in the Ghost Roma, Veneto, and Barocco designs are available as well with a concealed pommel. For riders who like their legs to be straight, the Roma incorporates vertical thigh blocks. For riders who want to ride with shorter stirrups, the Veneto includes thigh blocks that are slightly slanted and placed more forwards. Both varieties of thigh blocks can be used to create the Barocco.
Normal Ghost saddles, the Ghost Maremma and Cagliari are built with a seat crafted from genuine, unprocessed sheepskin. They are available in a variety of styles. The Maremma has the same shape as the Quilty and Quevis, whereas the Cagliari has longer flaps (like the Roma). These can be ordered with wild cut, blocks, or the same contours as one of the other versions.
For a “Classic” appearance, the Ghost Classic saddles incorporate a hidden pommel and a double flap with Velcro blocks. The Italy is a flexible model. The Flamenco has a lovely Spanish appearance, while the Lipica is for dressage. These are all identical to the other Ghost saddles in terms of features.
